Women on Boards — Foundation Programme

Offered in partnership with the Institute of Directors South Africa (IoDSA). Designed to support women, new to the boardroom, as they navigate the execution of their fiduciary responsibilities.

— Overview

Knowledge, skills & the competencies to seize board opportunities.

This programme equips female leaders with the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to seize board opportunities, understand board dynamics and confidently serve the evolving needs of today’s boardroom.

Delivered one day a month over three months, the programme blends governance content, real-world boardroom simulation and behavioural coaching — supported by reflective practice between sessions to embed the learning.

— Programme Outline

— One day a month for three months.

— Three days contact time, of six hours each with a Board Coach.

— Self-learning time and training material for each month.

— Reflective practical work between monthly sessions to embed awareness and learning.

— Benefits

— Develop and deepen your knowledge of board leadership, governance and integrity.

— Interact with real-life boardroom experiences and case studies.

— Prepare to engage effectively in the boardroom as a Non-Executive Director.

— Learn from women who have achieved demonstrable board success.

Day 1

Understanding the Boardroom

A journey of connection — to self, to peers and to the Board Coach. We use a conceptual framework to explore the context and dynamics of the boardroom, followed by a panel discussion with seasoned women directors. The day closes with a session on self-awareness — the foundation of responding rather than reacting at the board table.

Day 2

Boardroom Dynamics & Board Culture

Exploring the current status of women in the boardroom and the impact of women directors on organisations. An immersive Boardroom Dilemma, facilitated by seasoned Boardvisory directors, brings fiduciary responsibility and boardroom dynamics to life. The day concludes with practical work on becoming a more effective non-executive director.

Day 3

Mapping your journey to the Boardroom

An immersive Boardroom Dilemma, followed by the IoDSA Director Competency Framework™ — preparing a Board CV, succeeding at interview, and understanding how to add value. Afternoon work focuses on noticing biases, listening and networking, before personal development planning using the Boardvisory Framework™ of self-awareness and reflection.
